Affordable Luxury

Hi there! I started sewing a long, long time ago. It’s been a part of my life for decades, and I’ve been fortunate enough to be able make a living sharing my talents with people who share a love of luxurious items that are affordable. I’m always looking for a better way to construct whatever it is I’m working on- always looking for a way to get more use out of everything I own. I got sick and tired of spending hard-earned money on things that looked great but wouldn’t last. I love the ebb and flow of fashion, but I feel like making staple pieces that will WORK for you through any fad is more valuable than creating pieces that won’t work past one season. I try to think about what I’d want in a bag or a piece of clothing as if it were the only piece I’d ever purchase. I want the people who purchase my pieces to fall in love, feeling like they walked away with a one-of-a-kind item; and I want people to feel like the value they receive is more than they paid.

The weather is getting nicer here, in the Western Foothills of Maine. I’ve just created a rather masculine Satchel that I’ve named Gorham. Made it for my friend Jake for his birthday. He needed something that could carry all his necessities without being too bulky, or being a backpack he’d never use. I haven’t made too many Men’s bags; the only other one I’ve made (for sale) is the Portland Commuter, which is a very handsome laptop case. In any case, it was an amazing challenge, and I LOVE the way the Prototype came out! A few tweaks and I’ll have it online for sale! :-D

I worked in the alterations division of David’s Bridal about 15 years ago, learning how gowns (clothing) fit on different customers.  Then, around 5 years ago, I started sewing for Rough & Tumble.  Very quickly, I was designing for them, and created several popular bags before I decided to turn my skills into my own business.  Now, I design casual and elegant clothing and bags of my own, with a complete understanding of what makes an outfit or bag look great AND stand the test of time.  I feel clothing and accessories should be an investment and reflection of who you are; not junk that is worn once or twice before it rips out, and I want my bags to last longer than a few years.  I design pieces that I am confident will stand the test of time- no matter what current fashions dictate.  Thank you for your interest!
